His career as an independent businessman began right out of college, and has included experience in marketing, business development and management.  In fact, he himself was ‘recruited’ to join a midsize search firm in 1984.

Trevor’s oil patch recruitment skills were honed during 14 years with the same company where he worked on more than 400 search assignments and was consistently one of the company’s top producers.  He recruited technical professionals for his oil and gas industry clients, but he also ‘recruited the recruiters’, identifying, recruiting and training other staff members.

In the spring of 2000, Trevor decided to start his own executive search business and so he formed Johnstone Associates.  Trevor enjoyed immediate success and needed some help, so in the fall of 2001, Randy Ritchie joined the firm as his first associate.  In June of 2002, the two formed Johnstone & Ritchie Professional Search Inc. and the rest, as they say, is history.

Trevor is a second-generation Calgarian. He and his wife Darcy have four children. He has coached a variety of sports teams in baseball, hockey and football and was on the board of the Ridgewood/Southland Hockey Association for more than 10 years.  More recently he spends his free time pulling their travel trailer around western Canada and the USA, playing golf & hockey and enjoying the family’s most recent additions, Sunwest Orion, his daughter’s Morgan jumper and Sonny, his Tennessee Walker.

Randy started his career in Saskatoon with the Prairieland Exhibition in 1985. Just two years after joining ‘the Ex’, he was named a Manager, Horse Racing, running Marquis Downs Racetrack where he supervised 75 staff and reported to the Board of Directors of the not-for-profit organization.

In 1988, Randy moved to Calgary and began a new career with a national recruitment firm.  Within a year, he was named Branch Manager. After two years in career transition services, Randy joined a small executive search firm in 1996 to focus on the recruitment of senior technical professionals for the oil and gas industry.

One year later, opportunity knocked again when Randy was offered an expanded role in executive search with a major search firm in Calgary, working almost exclusively with the firm’s managing partner.  It was the best training possible as he was involved in the entire executive search process, from initial client consultation and preparation of search profiles, to researching, interviewing and assessing potential candidates.

After four years, Randy decided it was time to branch out on his own so in late 2001 he joined Trevor Johnstone and they formed Johnstone & Ritchie Professional Search Inc. in June 2002.

Randy’s recruitment experience includes searches to fill senior technical positions in engineering, geo-science, accounting, finance and middle management to CXX roles in the oil and gas industry.

Randy is an alumni member of the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede, was a board member for Clear Water Academy for nine years and has been very active in community hockey as a Head Coach within the Blackfoot Hockey Association.

He and his wife have two high school age children that are soon to go to university. He’s a hockey fanatic, and loves a game of golf.

In 1993 she joined Korn/Ferry International through the acquisition of O’Callaghan Honey. As a Senior Associate, Janice primarily worked on senior level recruitment of roles for advanced technology, industrial and the energy sector, with a significant focus on international assignments.

She joined a Calgary-based executive search firm in 2003, specializing in middle to senior level executive search in a variety of industries including the energy sector, both locally and internationally.

In April 2006, Janice established JLK Resources Ltd. and began providing her recruitment expertise to Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. Working on CNRL’s Horizon Oil Sands Project, Janice specialized in securing international engineering staff.

She continued her HR Consulting practice by consulting to the Lundin Group of Companies in 2007 which included Tanganyika Oil Company, Pearl Exploration (now BlackPearl) and Africa Oil Corporation. Her main focus was with Tanganyika, reporting to the President, recruiting staff to work in Syria for a heavy oil operation. She established the recruitment function for the Calgary head office and expatriates as well as the human resource function for the company.

Due the success of Tanganyika the Company was acquired by Sinopec in December 2008 and Janice continued to consult assisting in the transition until October 2009, when the former President of Tanganyika asked her to join a startup company called Orion Oil & Gas Corporation. As Vice President Human Resources and Recruitment she had accountability for the start-up of the HR function both locally and internationally.

After working five years in corporate HR, Janice had a strong desire to return to her roots of executive search and use her international oil and gas expertise, so Johnstone & Ritchie were pleased to add her to their firm in September 2010. Janice is a Senior Search Consultant focusing on building the international oil and gas practice but is also developing new markets for the firm. She is handling senior technical to executive level searches in engineering, geology, geophysics, accounting, finance, procurement and project management.

After graduating, Reinhard entered the IT industry working in an IT support and development capacity for various companies and industries including Oil and Gas, Manufacturing, IT Development, Design and Consulting, Recruitment and  Non-profit/charity organizations.

Reinhard’s initial exposure to recruitment was in 2001 when he joined an IT recruitment firm as a recruiter to place IT professionals in the North American market. After the company sold, Reinhard joined Johnstone Ritchie Professional Search Inc in 2004 as an Oil and Gas Research Associate. He is currently a Senior Research Associate placing senior and intermediate level engineers, geoscience professionals, managers, executives and IT personnel in the Oil and Gas Industry.

Reinhard enjoys travel, the outdoors, hiking, sports and speedboating.

Brett attended Mount Royal University where he graduated with a degree in international business. He also continues to attend classes on a part-time basis as he works towards a second degree. Brett is a new addition to the Johnstone & Ritchie team and is currently in his second year of search.

Brett enjoys playing golf, soccer and cricket.

Alicia graduated in December 2010 with a final GPA of 3.96 and a BBA in General Management. She joined Johnstone & Ritchie in February 2011.

Alicia enjoys browsing used bookstores and she sings alto in her church choir.

Most of Brett’s background work experience put a strong emphasis on customer service and client relationships. This helped in her transfer to a corporate setting where she worked in marketing part-time over her final two years at school. She is now excited to be a part of the Johnstone & Ritchie team.

In her downtime, Brett enjoys watching a good film or taking her dog for a walk.
