Why Consider This Role?

As Vice President Operations, you will have the mandate to bring both your management and technical leadership expertise to this successful and entrepreneurial international company.  In this newly created role, you will establish and ensure best practices within the company’s South American operations providing a strong basis for continued growth.

Team Dynamics

The successful candidate will report to the Chief Operating Officer with responsibility for facilities, civil, drilling, production and HSE. You will work closely with the Senior Vice President Exploration as well as with all senior managerial disciplines within the Bogota and Calgary offices.

Activities and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing all of the production and development projects ensuring the highest standard of technical and business operational excellence.  Key responsibilities:

  • Technical oversight of facilities, civil works, drilling and production
  • Ensure best practices are established, implemented and championed in all operational processes and procedures; develop, communicate and evaluate KPIs
  • Performance management – develop, mentor and lead engineering staff in drilling, completions, facilities and civil disciplines
  • Develop business and engineering processes that improve economic and operational efficiencies
  • Continuous oversight of field operating costs and practices ensuring appropriate analysis, cost control comparisons for performance measurements/benchmarking are in place and monitored
  • Ensure best practices are established, implemented and followed throughout the full cycle of supply chain management to include inventory control and contract negotiation through to execution.
  • Ensure technology transfer and alignment of operational processes throughout the company (Calgary and South American operations)
  • Accountability for long–range planning and budgets
  • Manage and liaise with government and regulatory bodies as required
  • Maintain and develop good operating practices ensuring that all appropriate safety and environmental policies are followed and supported.

Skills and Experience

You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 15 years of broad based engineering experience within an exploration and production environment.  With 10+ years of supervisory or management experience you have a successful track record of leading, resourcing, developing and maintaining a core of highly competent and motivated professionals.  You have demonstrated technical excellence throughout your career.  Your experience has included drilling and completions, reservoir engineering and reserves, production engineering, development engineering, surface facilities, civil works, field operations, HSE, public consultation and economics.

You have a high comfort level working within cross-cultural environments with strong exposure to international operations.  With well developed business acumen, you are a results-oriented professional with a high level of initiative.  You have exceptional communication skills to include a working knowledge of Spanish.
