You are cordially invited to attend a breakfast at the Calgary Petroleum Club

on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 7:30 am with special guest:

Mr. Stanford R. Ovshinsky

Inventor & Innovator

“I’m 89, and I’m still learning. I love learning.

The fact is that in science it’s your contributions that are important.”

Mr. Ovshinsky is an inventor who holds over 400 patents, primarily in the areas of information and energy. Starting out as a machinist, he has not stopped. He was inducted to the Solar Hall of Fame in 2005, and was named Time Magazine’s Hero for the Planet in 1999 among his many other awards, honorary doctorates and lifetime memberships. He will be speaking and answering questions on innovation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_R._Ovshinsky

Last November, a Grade 7 class from Louis Riel School wrote to Mr. Ovshinsky, inviting him to talk about his inventions, being a scientist, alternative energy and its impact on our world. After Mr. Ovshinsky replied and accepted the invitation, the students turned their efforts in honor of him, by raising money to install solar panels at their school.

And now, we are going to help them.

Tickets are $100.00 payable to: Louis Riel School. 100% of ticket price will go towards their solar panel project, with a tax receipt issued by the school

Please RSVP to Alicia at 403-539-9423 as soon as possible, as seating is limited to the first 50

The Calgary Petroleum Club is located at 319, 5th Avenue SW

If you’re looking to switch jobs, it’s smart to go through a headhunter or recruiter. These people often have access to jobs that aren’t advertised and can speed up the hiring process.

But before you call one up, you need to know how they operate.

“As a career management coach, it’s always surprising to me that even senior level job seekers often don’t know that ‘headhunters’ work for the companies, not the candidates,” says Bettina Seidman of SEIDBET Associates.

“Clients sometimes say: ‘I’ll just contact a headhunter who will get me a job.’ Headhunters aren’t career counselors … they’re motivated by earning the commission.”

To find out how to increase your chances of landing a job through a headhunter, we spoke with several executive recruiters and career coaches to get the low-down on the errors job seekers make.
